Born in Durango, Mexico, Rene has always had a passion for filmmaking. His exposure to the film industry began at a very young age, given his father was an accomplished director of photography who specialized in commercials. Rene moved his way up the ladder from video assist, 2nd assistant camera, 1st assistant camera and eventually moving on to directing his own projects. However his ascent to directing took an unexpected detour. At 18 years old he pursued a career as a professional dancer and choreographer. This lead to his directorial debut, Janet Jackson’s “That’s the Way Love Goes” music video which was nominated for MTV’s Video of the Year. 

Rene continued collaborating with Janet Jackson co-writing 37 songs on 3 albums which sold over 100 million records, directed 3 world tours, and directed multiple music videos including her Oscar nominated song “Again”.  

As a photographer, René shot many magazine covers and tour books for Janet Jackson.  He designed her iconic award-winning Rolling Stone cover with his hands on her breasts.

His latest work includes music videos for Backstreet Boys and Aj Mclean, as well as a multitude of commercials.
